AHAM ART GALLERY

Jayanagar, Bengaluru

Aham was one of the first few projects of SMD in Bangalore. Nested in the heart of Jayanagar , this art gallery was never the clean open space that it is today. What is was, was a 30 year old 3 BHK residential building,, three storeys tall. This meant it had about 1200 sft of 1 ft thick brick masonry wall. All of these were to be demolished and converted into a multipurpose space that was to be used as an art gallery or a dance space or a space for meditation or any other such activity. The design was kept simple - all windows and doors were repurposed to be polished and are fit to create a very elegant vernacular language of design. All square shaped columns were made round for a better feel, false ceiling was added with gallery lighting, and a mild yellow epoxy flooring was spread across to create a homely and sprightly environment. Today the space is home to very many cultural events and every user has appreciated the intimate and homely feel this space allows.
